This forum discusses the future of education in Malaysia by reinstating the Arts and Humanities. The education of Science and Technology has become the primary focus of all levels of education geared towards the industrialization of this country in the last four decades particularly under the watch of Tun Mahathir. This imbalance in focus has brought about a citizenry that is bereft of critical thinking and the inability to accept differences of values and thoughts from other cultures. The reinstatement of the importance of the Arts and Humanities in all levels of education is crucial because these two bodies of knowledge have the ability to instill critical, holistic and creative thinking based on the foundation of values of the heritage of the nation. The hardware of Technology and Science must be balanced by the drivers of Arts and Humanities to produce a sustainable and complementary development agenda for the nation. The unending conflicts between race and religion in Malaysia can be avoided and even ended with this balanced approach of the Scientific-Technological construct and that of the Arts-Humanities one.
